YUBA COLLEGE: Softball stays perfect in BVC

49ers baseball loses third straight

The Yuba College softball team remained perfect in Bay Valley Conference play after sweeping a doubleheader against Napa Valley College in Napa on Tuesday afternoon.

Rachel Quinn led the charge in an 8-5 victory in game one by going 3 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBIs. She also struck out four and allowed 11 hits over seven innings to record the win.

Jacky Tanner went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored twice in the victory.

The 49ers won the second game 11-9 in eight innings led by McKenzie Kraus, who finished a perfect 5 for 5 with two triples and three RBIs.

Taylor Crabb went 4 for 5 with two triples, a double, two RBIs and scored three times, and Tanner was 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI in the victory for Yuba, which improved to 12-9 overall and 5-0 in the BVC with the two wins.

Yuba will continue conference play with a doubleheader at College of Marin on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Marin 10, Yuba 5

In Marysville — The 49ers dropped their third straight BVC game with a tough loss to the Mariners at Appeal-Democrat Park.

Solano (7-2 in BVC) took sole possession of first place in the BVC, while Marin, Los Medanos and Mendocino are locked in a tie for second. The 49ers (12-9 overall, 5-4 BVC) sit at third place.

On Tuesday, the Niners led 4-2 before the Mariners jumped on the bullpen for six runs in the top of the eighth inning. Yuba committed three errors, including two in the eighth to help Marin's cause.

Marin added two more runs in the top of the ninth.

Yuba took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third when Colin Gault knocked in Jake Phillips. Christian Divelbiss' double plated both Gault and Dallas Cummings.

Cummings knocked in Phillips in the bottom of the seventh on a single to extend the Yuba lead to 4-2.

Yuba fifth run came in the eighth on an RBI triple from Ethan McGill.

Starting pitcher Mike Frantz picked up the no-decision, but was solid through seven innings.

He gave up two runs (one earned), struck out five and allowed just four hits.

Yuba looks to snap their current skid on Thursday when the 49ers host Los Medanos.
