Maryetta Jones

Marysville resident Maryetta Filby Jones celebrated her 90th birthday April 24 accompanied by her daughter, Wandalee Varsallona of Yuba City, with several stops in the Mid-Valley.

The two shared breakfast at HomeTown Buffet and lunch at Sizzler's, both in Yuba City, and dinner at the Black Bear in Gridley. Later, the two rode to Sacramento aboard a Yuba-Sutter Transit bus.

She was born April 26, 1918, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has been been a Yuba-Sutter resident for 60 years.

Known as Juke Box Mary in the 1940s — she was employed to change the records and song labels in juke boxes in the Marysville area — she is now a regular nicknamed "the Rider" on Y-S Transit. She formerly maintained a table at the Simpson Lane Flea Market.

Her family also includes children Sue Cortez of Fresno, Jan White of Medford, Ore., and the late John D. Jones Jr.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
