Sutter County

6 held to answer in pizza robbery

A Sutter County judge held all six defendants to answer Wednesday on charges of robbing a Domino's Pizza deliveryman Jan. 27 on Dorman Avenue in Yuba City.

Judge Chris Chandler set a March 15 arraignment for Valentino Gonzales, 16, Mario Gonzalez, 18, Aldair Michael Rangel, 20, Danny Romero, 16, Leonel Talavera, 14, and Everardo Quintero, 14.

Gonzales, Romero, Talavera and Quintero are charged as adults.

Live Oak

Tree planting to honor Fortino

Live Oak is planting a tree in memory of Al Fortino on Saturday during its California Arbor Day celebration.

The event is at 11 a.m. at the Live Oak Community Center, 10200 O St.

Fortino served as the city's representative to the Sacramento Tree Foundation during his time on the Live Oak City Council. He died July 6, 2009.

Yuba City

Masonic youth set dinner, movie

Masonic youth are hosting a Dinner and a Movie Night on Friday at the Yuba City Masonic Center, 501 Second St.

Pizza and popcorn will be provided for the event set at 6 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring folding chairs.

AARP offers free tax assistance

AARP Tax-Aide is providing free tax assistance in the Yuba-Sutter area.

Help is available:

• Tuesdays and Wednesdays — for any age from 9 a.m. to noon at the Moose Lodge, 205 S. Walton Ave., Yuba City.

• Thursdays and Fridays — for people 60 years and over from 9 a.m. to noon at the Yuba City Senior Center, 777 Ainsley Ave.

Those taking part are asked to bring their tax returns from last year.

Yuba foothills

Food distribution sites named

The Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank's monthly free food distribution is set March 18 in the Yuba County foothills.

Sites and times are:

• Brownsville — 8 to 11 a.m. at Friday Night Live, 8404 La Porte Road. This is also a pickup site for the Yuba County Brown Bag program.

• Loma Rica — 9 to 11 a.m. at the Lions clubhouse, 5697 Fruitland Road.

• Dobbins — 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Lake Francis Grange, 10775 Texas Hill Road.

The food distribution is through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Call the Gleaners at 673-3834 for more information.
