Genoa Ansted
Genoa “Wayne” Ansted, 74, of Yuba City died Sept. 5, 2006, at Rideout Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lazar, Texas, he was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 35 years.
Retired, he was a teacher for Butte County Child Development in Gridley for 20 years and received the Distinguished Teacher's Award from the State of California in 1992.
He was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association and Peach Tree Church of Christ where he served as a church elder for 10 years.
Serving in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel during the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was a recipient of the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Vesta Ansted of Yuba City; a daughter, Valarie Jeffrey of Yuba City; a son, Calvin Ansted of Yuba City; a brother, Albert Ansted of Yuba City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Ansted.

Services: Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City. A service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at Peach Tree Church of Christ, 1321 Peach Tree Lane, Yuba City. Pastor Larry Cain will officiate. Burial will follow at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.
