Jonathan R. Balkowitsch
Jonathan Richard Balkowitsch, 30, of Oceanside died Sept. 17, 2006, in San Diego County.
Born in Bemidji, Minn., he was a longtime Yuba-Sutter resident prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served three tours of duty in Iraq and was assigned to the First Light Armor Recon Battalion.
He was a 1994 graduate of Sutter Union High School and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorena Balkowitsch of Yuba City; a son, Jonathan Balkowitsch Jr. of Yuba City; a stepson, Tanner Heflin of Healdsburg; his parents, John and Nancy Balkowitsch of Yuba City; and a brother, Hans Balkowitsch of Yuba City.
Donations may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1390 Franklin Road, Yuba City, CA 95993.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1390 Franklin Road, Yuba City, with Pastor Chris Kersting officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps. Private inurnment will be in Sutter Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City.
