Letter: Yuba DA has wrong priority
Comments 0 | Recommend 0This letter is in regard to your article "Yuba DA probes attorneys" (June 15).
Yuba County has sunk to a new low. Instead of arresting an alleged child molester whom they have had allegations against for seven months now, the Yuba County district attorney instead is investigating two very experienced and highly competent attorneys. To even question their actions is absurd!
The competence of the DA on the other hand is questionable. If these allegations by the minor had been made against anyone else, they surely would have been arrested immediately. The question is why Joe Griesa hasn't been arrested. Could it be that he in fact does have the Yuba County DA and Marysville PD "in his back pocket" as suggested in the story?
Could the allegations against attorneys Vasquez and Santana be a retaliatory action by the district attorney and the cronies he caters to? The Yuba County DA should keep in mind that filing bogus charges against individuals could have serious consequences. Remember District Attorney Michael Nifong of Durham, N.C.? Nifong was disbarred for filing charges against several Duke lacrosse players based on flimsy evidence. Both Santana and Vasquez are upstanding and seasoned attorneys. I am sure they handled the civil matter lawfully.
The DA and his investigator, Mary Barr, should tread very carefully before attempting to tarnish the reputation of two respected attorneys while letting an alleged child predator roam free, or DA McGrath and his office will be the ones looking tarnished once all is said and done.
