The Sutter Union High School Drama Club will present public performances of "The Three Musketeers" this week at the school. The Sutter students already staged several performances for students in SUHS feeder schools from Meridian, Sutter and Yuba City last week.
"This version of 'The Three Musketeers' was written by a fellow teacher of mine, Lew Ferrin. We adapted it more for a children's audience," said director Rick Tuttle. "In the fall, we typically do a children's play with a lot of action and fun plot lines so the kids can be involved.
"We are hopefully recruiting the next generation of actors by giving them a taste of theater — and that's our goal when we perform for these young audiences. We want to turn them into actors when they reach high school," Tuttle said.
"All in all, we perform for about 800 young students."
"The Three Musketeers" revolves around a young D'Artagnan (Dennis Jackson) who is on a quest to join the Musketeers — Athos (Weston Cannada), Porthos (Eric Coffman) and Aramis (Trevor Holt).
"Together, they help to foil a plot by the evil Cardinal Richelieu (Matt Condrey) to undermine the king and queen," Tuttle said.
The cast includes Christina Barbaccia, Patrick Bennett, Cheyenne Bohmann, Laura Burroughs, Matt Cannada, Carolyn Clausen, Sara Comarsh, Meaghan Condrey, Katelyn Eaton, Jason Elford, Tara Godinez, Brandi Gollenbusch, Abraham Gutierrez, Austin Kern, Spencer King, Rachel Larimer, Shannon Miller, Aundrea Mosley, Jon Peters, Abbey Ryan and Chloe Tierney.
Other SUHS departments, including art and wood shop, have also assisted with the show.
"The motto of the musketeers is all for one and one for all, and anyone who has done theater knows that it takes lots of collaboration to make it work. That has definitely been our theme throughout this production," Tuttle said.
"A lot of students with a lot of talent have put in a lot of work to put on a great show that we trust the community will enjoy."
