A Marysville police official investigates the scene of an accident at 10th and G streets Tuesday in Marysville.

Bicyclist struck at 10th, G in Marysville, flown to hospital

The driver of a gray Scion struck a man on a bicycle who was riding in the street on Tuesday evening on 10th Street in Marysville, sending the bicyclist to the hospital with major injuries.

The man, Kelly Mark Ballou, 51, of Marysville, was taken by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Hospital. The female driver, whose name was not released, was not hurt, Marysville Police Sgt. Chris Miller said.

"She was pretty shook up," said Shawn Measles, a witness. "I'm pretty shook up and I just saw it."

Police responded at 4:52 p.m. to 10th and G streets and found the man laying in the road, Miller said.

Measles was driving in the lane next to the sedan. He said the bicyclist was riding just outside the crosswalk at 10th and G streets, crossing from the north side to the south side of the road when he was struck.

"I pulled out cautiously because I saw him, and I thought she saw him, too," Measles said.

Ballou's shoes, a pile of clothes and a six pack of beer were scattered across the road, and a large pool of blood gathered in the gutter near the intersection.

He was taken to Riverfront Park, where a medical helicopter transported him to the Roseville hospital.

Westbound 10th Street was closed at G Street for more than two hours while officers investigated the scene.

Details of the crash were still under investigation Tuesday night.
