Amber Alert message a hoax
A fake Amber alert is circulating through cell phones in the Yuba-Sutter area.
Numerous text messages were reported to the Appeal-Democrat Sunday afternoon claiming a 3-year-old boy was abducted by a man in a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a license plate number of 98B351.
The California Highway Patrol had no reports of an active Amber Alert in the Yuba-Sutter area. The Web site for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children lists no active Amber Alerts in the United States.
A search of Twitter found a slew of reports of the same Amber alert repeated over the past week.
If you received the message and would like to comment about it, call Appeal-Democrat reporter Ben Van Der Meer at 749-4709.
