SUTTER, BUTTE

Levee ballots in the mail

The Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency has mailed out more than 34,200 ballots to property owners in Sutter and Butte counties.

Property owners are being asked whether they support an annual assessment to help pay for repairs on 44 miles of levees along the west bank of the Feather River. The project is designed to improve flood protection.

Property owners can mail in ballots as long as they are received by June 30. Ballots can be hand-delivered during the agency's public hearing at 6 p.m., June 30, at the Veteran's Hall, 1425 Veteran's Memorial Circle, Yuba City.

To be counted, all ballots must be received prior to the close of the public hearing.

Property owners with questions are encouraged to call the agency hotline at 870-4425, or send an e-mail through the website www.sutterbutte flood.org.

General Plan public meeting set

How the Dobbins/Oregon House portion of Yuba County fits into the county's General Plan update will get another airing with a community meeting Thursday at the Alcouffe Community Center.

Residents in the foothill communities have been discussing how to include their vision in a plan update set to be finished later this year. Both a 10-year-old statement of principles for growth and a plan crafted by a handful of residents over the last year — with a largely negative response — have been part of the discussion.

The public meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the community center, 9185 Marysville Road.
