Initial report on bar co-owner's death released

An autopsy performed Thursday indicated Marysville’s Charles Wooten died from “cardiac arrest due to pulmonary insufficiency,” the Yuba County Coroner’s Office reported.

It was not a heart attack, Undersheriff Jerry Read said.

“Essentially, he wasn’t breathing well enough, he wasn’t exchanging enough air,” Read said.

The body of the 42-year-old bar co-owner was found early Wednesday.

Foul play is not suspected, police said.

Read called the findings an “initial report” and said investigators would have a better understanding when toxicology test results come back.

Marysville police Sgt. Chris Sachs declined to say whether investigators found any evidence of drug use.

“I can’t comment on that until we get the toxicology tests,” Sachs said.

Toxicology tests typically take up to six weeks to process.
