Body found in Feather River

Authorities in Yuba and Sutter County are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Thursday in the Feather River.

Yuba County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Melanie Oakes said the man was in his 30s or 40s. The body was in the middle of the river about a mile north of the Star Bend boat ramp, she said.

The Yuba County Coroner's Office located the body and is determining the cause of death, although the Sutter County Sheriff's Department is investigating the circumstances, Oakes said.

The man's identity has not yet been confirmed, she said.

Sutter County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Brenda Baker said detectives are interviewing family members of a Sutter County resident reported missing June 21. The missing man "may or may not be" the man found in the river, she said.
