Since You Asked: New Yuba City cafe owners wanted name makeover
Q: Why did the Karma Cafe change its name to Cafe Olivetti?
A: The Karma Cafe was sold in mid-July to veteran restaurateurs Phil and Lorrie Casarez, and the new owners wanted a new name.
For the last 13 years, the Casarez family has operated four different restaurants, including one in Roseville and one in Penn Valley, Lorrie Casarez explained.
Holly Woods, the former owner of the Karma Cafe, could not be reached for comment.
Their son, Jan, was part of the original Karma Cafe team, and the family was eager to operate the downtown Yuba City eatery, Casarez said.
And the new owners are changing a lot more the name on the building.
"We have a new menu coming out next week, and we're lowering the prices," Casarez said.
Phil Casarez, a trained chef with more than 40 years of experience, creates the recipes and designs the menus.
The team plans to add more sandwiches, burgers and pasta items. They also plan to open for breakfast beginning in November and will be expanding the appetizer menu.
UPDATE: Sam's Club wrapping up renovations.
After a nearly a year of bad luck and a series of minor setbacks, Sam's Club in Yuba City is wrapping up renovations.
They're having a party on Friday.
Wet weather early in the year caused numerous delays and pushed the expected completion to August.
August came and went, but there was still more work to do.
"Unfortunately, there were some minor constructions delays, although nothing specific or abnormal," store spokesman Mark Scott explained. "Sometimes with construction, there are unforeseen delays that occur, which was the case with the renovations to our Yuba City Sam's Club."
Renovations include adding more seats to the cafe area, expanding the bakery department and adding new walk-in refrigerators for produce, among others.
