Anti-casino group involved in U.S. Supreme Court case
A group opposed to the Enterprise Rancheria casino project has filed a friend-of-the-court brief on a case before the U.S. Supreme Court over who can weigh in on Indian casino projects.
Stand Up For California filed a brief supporting the case of plaintiff David Patchak of Michigan, who opposed a casino being built near him and sued over the ability of private citizens to influence or challenge casino-related decisions by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Local opponents of Enterprise Rancheria maintain a 2005 ballot measure, which was only an advisory vote, should carry more weight with state and federal officials deciding whether the casino can proceed and be built in Yuba County. Residents voted to oppose the casino in the measure.
