Corning seniors learn what's next at fair

Dozens of Corning seniors gathered at the Senior Center on Thursday morning to learn more about the programs and services provided them throughout the area.

The senior center was packed wall-to-wall with presenters such as Tehama County Victims Witness, Legal Services, Adult Protection/In Home Services and HICAP Passages.

In addition, the Exchange Club and Maywood Woman's Club representatives were on hand to let seniors know they are welcome to join and how they can benefit the club and club them.

A list of "red flags" concerning senior citizens was presented by Tehama County Social Services, including erratic bank activity, changes in the older person's property titles and other documents, lack of amenities, being isolated from and by others, and untreated medical or mental health problems, to name just a few.

"Our seniors are some of our most susceptible citizens to abuse," said Senior Center Director Linda Lima. "I'm grateful we have as many as we do coming to the senior center where we can keep an eye on them."

One of the displays in the room was of artwork created by Corning Art Group members.

Following the presentation the seniors enjoyed a luncheon at the center.
