Briefs: Forum confronts child obesity

MARYSVILLE

Few haven't heard the numbers: Today's children are on pace to be significantly more overweight, if not obese, than any previous generation.

What's causing the trend, and what parents, child care providers and others can do about it, will be the topic of a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The workshop will feature Rose McIsaac, a guest speaker who is both a dietitian and a worker through Women, Infants and Children programs.

The workshop is free and is at the Child Care Planning Council of Yuba & Sutter Counties, 1104 E St., Marysville. To reserve a space, call 301-0623 or tcaeyc@gmail.com .

SUTTER COUNTY

Feedback sought on courthouse

A new courthouse for Sutter County won't break ground for a while, but a state agency is taking feedback about the project and how it will happen.

On Oct. 19 and 20, the state Court Facilities Working Group will meet in San Francisco to discuss Sutter County's new courthouse and 40 other projects statewide, acknowledging state budget cuts will affect the building program.

For the Sutter County courthouse, originally set to begin taking shape in 2013 next to the county jail, the cuts meant work won't start until 2014.

Comments may be sent to occmcomments@jud.ca.gov or Administrative Office of the Courts, ATTN: Comments to Court Facilities Working Group, 455 Golden Gate Ave. 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94102. Comments must be received by Oct. 18, though in-person comments will also be taken.
