New tour introduces historic Marysville Chinatown

About 20 people, comprised mainly of children and their parents, took a tour of Marysville's historic Chinatown on Saturday afternoon, with a look inside the Bok Kai Temple and former Chinese School on First Street.

Sue Cejner-Moyers decided to organize the event for the first time this year, noting how few locals have learned about, let alone visited, the local landmarks. Putting on a puppet show about Bok Eye, the water god of the temple, and teaching children how to write the Chinese character "blessing" with bamboo brushes were designed to appeal to children.

"Children are our future. If we don't bring the children into this, then they're not going to appreciate it or understand it," said Cejner-Moyers.
