GRIDLEY
Services Tuesday for slain lay bishop
Funeral services for Gridley native Clay Sannar, victim of a shooting in Visalia on Sunday, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Church of Latter-Day Saints, 400 Spruce Street in Gridley.
Sannar, 40, had been serving as a lay bishop at a Mormon church in Visalia when 47-year-old Kenneth Ward entered the building, asked to be directed to the church leader, then fatally shot Sannar.
Services are being held in Visalia at 1 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 650 N. Lovers Lane.
WINTERS
Poker run slated for Sept. 11
An open poker run on Sept. 11, open to all vehicles, starts in Winters and travels through several counties before ending at the Party for Patriots in Robbins.
Check in is from 9-11 a.m. at Dee Dee's, 4513 Putah Creek Road in Winters. Participants will travel to Napa, Lake County and Capay before arriving at the party starting at 4 p.m. at the Robbins Community Hall.
Cost for the poker run is $15 per person, $25 per couple and includes the party.

Musicians to honor ROTC, VFW
They're not military brass bands, but a handful of musicians are still playing to support the armed forces in a roundabout way, with a fundraiser on Oct. 3 for the Lindhurst High School ROTC program and the VFW building fund.
At the Branding Iron, at 5851 Feather River Blvd. in west Linda, the bands the Chris Gardner Band, Amanda Gray and Whiskey Savage and Kymmi and the Diamondbacks will play beginning at 4:30 p.m., with hot dogs and hamburgers both served.
Tickets are $10 and are available at from the VFW and American Legion posts in Yuba County, as well as the Blue Star Moms.
MARYSVILLE
Youth fishing derby moved to later date
The annual Youth Fishing Derby at Ellis Lake in Marysville, sponsored by the Marysville Kiwanis Club, has been changed from after Labor Day weekend.
The event, for children age preschool through eighth grade, will be held Oct. 2.

9/11 walk set for Geweke Field
The Tri Counties Blue Star Moms is hosting the third annual 9/11 Freedom Walk on Sept. 11 at Geweke Field in Yuba City.
Opening ceremonies start at 5 p.m. with speaker Dan Holdridge who survived the attack on the Pentagon building.
The track at Geweke Field will be lined with more than 585 American flags, one each for every Californian military service person who has died in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Tickets available for fall banquet
Tickets are available for the 23rd annual Fall Benefit Banquet sponsored by A Woman's Friend Pregnancy Resource Clinic.
The fundraiser is from 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Main Exhibit Building, 442 Franklin Ave., Yuba City.
Tickets are $30, available through Oct. 7.
This year's guest speaker is Jim Daly, president of Focus on the Family.

Clothing sale benefits Rideout
All clothing at the Pink Trunk Thrift Store in Marysville will be on sale at half price for three days next week, with all the funds raised benefiting Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
The sale is set Tuesday to Thursday at 201 D St., Suite A.
The thrift store is staffed by volunteers, members of the Rideout Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
