Minor injuries in Disney bus crash

Two students and two parents who went to Orlando, Fla., for Yuba City High School's participation in cheerleading competition held at Disney World received minor injuries in a traffic accident on the last day of the trip.

"They should be home this evening," Martin Ramirez, Yuba City High principal said Monday.

The four, whose names are not available, will take a later flight back, Ramirez said. He said Coach Natalie Page stayed with the four, who were taken to a hospital and treated and released.

A total of 19 members of the competitive cheer squad traveled Thursday to Florida for the trip scheduled to end Monday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 50 people were on a Disney bus that collided at an intersection with a semi-truck and trailer. Four passengers, along with the bus driver, were taken to the hospital.

"This crash remains under investigation to determine who ran the red light," the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The Disney Magical Express bus is described in a Yuba City High School District report about the Florida trip as providing transportation between the Disney All Star Resort and the airport. The bus company is said to be separate from the Disney company.

Bryan Malenius, a Disney spokesman, said a representative of the resort went to the hospital to provide assistance to those injured.
