2 vehicles hit by gunfire in Yuba City

Two moving vehicles were hit by gunfire an hour apart on Thursday night in south Yuba City.

Neither driver was shot, but one woman received minor injuries from shattered window glass, said Sutter County Undersheriff Jeffery Pierce.

There was no evidence the incidents are connected, authorities said.

Pierce acknowledged the separate, seemingly similar, but apparently unrelated shootings were an "odd" coincidence.

No arrests have been made, and no victim information was released Friday.

Around 8 p.m., a man was driving south on Garden Highway when his vehicle was hit about five times as he approached Messick Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

"He believed his vehicle had been hit with rocks, at first," CHP Officer Jodie Beck said.

An hour later, a man jumped out of some roadside bushes around South Barrett Road in Yuba City and fired several shots into a couple's vehicle, Pierce said.

"We don't know if this was a random incident or something else," Pierce said. "The investigation is still under way."

The couple was driving south on South Barrett Road toward Hunn Road and pulled up to a stop sign at the intersection when the shooting started.

Anyone with information about the Barrett Road shooting is asked to call the Sutter County Sheriff's Department at 822-7307. To provide information about the Garden Highway incident, call the Yuba-Sutter California Highway Patrol at 674-5702.
