Briefs: Pedestrian in Yuba City accident identified
A 78-year-old Yuba City man has been identified as the victim of an accident Sunday in which he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street.
The Sutter County Sheriff-Coroner's Office said Antonio Jimenez was killed after being hit by a 1998 Dodge four-wheel-drive pickup while walking across Gray Avenue at Forbes Avenue.
The vehicle was traveling north on Gray, and Jimenez was walking west at about 5:20 p.m., Yuba City police said.
Police said alcohol was not thought to be a factor in the accident.

Walnut shell load spills on highway
The driver of a truck pulling a trailer full of walnut shells ran into a metal guardrail on Highway 99 north of Lomo Crossing in Sutter County on Monday and overturned, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said Juan Ramirez Miranda, 30, of Yuba City, was driving north on 99 at about 10 a.m. at an unsafe speed before hitting the guardrail. Ramirez Miranda was not injured.
Both northbound and southbound traffic on 99 was diverted for about 15 minutes.
YUBA CITY
DUI checkpoint slated Wednesday
A DUI/driver's license checkpoint is scheduled Wednesday between 7 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. in Yuba City.
The checkpoint, staffed by the Yuba City Police Department Traffic Unit, is aimed reducing the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol- or drug- involved crashes.
The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
BEALE AIR FORCE BASE
Gates will be open seven days a week
All five gates at Beale Air Force Base will be open seven days a week starting Monday after a recent traffic flow study.
Hours for the gates will be 24 hours at the Wheatland and Doolittle entrances and 5 a.m.- 9 p.m. at the Schneider, Vasser Lake and Grass Valley gates.
Gate hours and base access are subject to change.

Conservation unit called outstanding
The Sutter County Resource Conservation District was among four districts in the state honored as an "Outstanding District of the Year" during the National Resources Conservation Service Partnership Awards Luncheon.
Accepting the honor were RCD board chair Jon Munger, district manager Larry Lloyd and assistant district manager Juleah Cordi. The luncheon was held Nov. 15 in San Diego.

Veteran of the Year will be honored
The Yuba-Sutter Veteran of the Year will be honored during the seventh annual Town Hall meeting sponsored by the Yuba Sutter United Veterans Council.
In addition, the meeting will honor a civilian and a business who support local veterans.
The event is slated from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Yuba County Government Center, 915 Eighth St., Marysville.

Donations sought for those in need
Donations to help families in Live Oak during the holidays are being accepted Monday to Friday through Dec. 17 at Live Oak City Hall, 9955 Live Oak Blvd., and at businesses in the community.
Items will be given away on Dec. 19 during the Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank distribution at the Live Oak Community Building, 10200 O St.

Kids 12 and under free at Santa event
Photos with Santa, crafts and a bicycle giveaway for youngsters are part of the festivities at the annual Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by the Early Risers Kiwanis of Yuba City.
Free for children ages 12 years and younger, the event is slated from 8 a.m.-noon Dec. 9 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1425 Veterans Memorial Circle, Yuba City.
A $5 donation is requested from adults and teens.
Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee.
Activities also include kids crafts provided by members of the River Valley Key Club.

Party to kick off Adopt-a-Family
The Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program, helping local residents in need, is kicking off its program Dec. 1 in conjunction with the second annual Victorian Christmas party hosted by Shaw and Associates in Yuba City.
The kickoff and party are scheduled for noon-2 p.m. at 950 Tharp Road, Suite 101.
Donations of unwrapped new toys or nonperishable food for the program can be dropped off at Shaw and Associates during business hours through Dec. 17 and at the First United Methodist Church, 3101 Colusa Highway, Yuba City.
The public is invited to anonymously "adopt" a family by contacting the program coordinators by calling 790-7554 or emailing coordinators@FITAdopt-a-Family.org.
