100 years

Tim Shea was arrested under suspicion of robbing a man. Shea bought a drink for the crowd and then left saying he was going to get some more money. He left the saloon and returned a few minutes later with some money.

Later Lewis Foreigner, who had a room at the Dawson house, corner E and Second streets, reported to the police that he had been robbed of his money, relating that he was lying in bed when a man answering Shea's description came into the room and took the pillow case off the bed in which he had his money and made his escape from the room.

50 years

The door to Fourth Ward Tavern at 102 Seventh St. flew open and a tall man with a pillow case over his face pointed a shotgun at bartender Robert Kneas and four patrons seated at the bar and demanded their money. The four patrons laughed good naturedly and turned back to their drinks. The would-be robber stood silently at the doorway for a moment, then tried again: "Hurry up. I'm getting nervous," he said. Everyone smiled, and after a moment's hesitation he turned and fled.

25 years

Marysville's Community Development Agency chairman called for taxpayers to finance the property that would be offered for lease at a low rate to a major retail store to entice the store to locate in the city. The city could perhaps buy out the area across the street from Mervyn's Department Store on Third Street or an area on D Street near Fifth and Sixth streets, said Councilman Al Colon.

CalTrans rejected a proposal to install traffic signal lights or stop signs on Highway 65 at the heart of Wheatland saying a four-way stop wasn't warranted by traffic volume or by the number of accidents in the area.

10 years

Kathleen O'Connor, the first woman judge elected in Yuba County, swore in Virginia Black, the first woman sheriff in California history, to her second, four-year term of office.

The Yuba City City Council passed a controversial proposal that limits new multi-screen theaters to downtown, saying it would keep shoppers on Plumas Street and stop the city from becoming a bedroom community.

5 years

Chris Thorton finished cleaning his bedroom in his East Marysville house. Then seconds after he exited the room, a car went through it.

Police uncovered a large-scale indoor marijuana growing operation in the Tierra Buena section of Yuba City, believed to be the first of its kind found in the area. Officers from the Yuba-Sutter Narcotic Enforcement Tea, or NET-5, and the Yuba City Police Department raided two houses next door to each other in the 2700 block of Billie Ann Drive and reportedly found 550 marijuana plants in various stages of maturity.
