State probe reaches YC

Chiropractor's office searched

April 17, 2008 - 5:39 PM

Law enforcement officers raided at least one Yuba City chiropractor's office as part of a statewide investigation into alleged workers' compensation fraud.

Jason Kimbrough, deputy press secretary to Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, said 250 officers took search warrants to 50 offices in a dozen counties throughout the state.

Yuba City Police Department spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said state officers notified the department before conducting the raids Tuesday.

Kimbrough declined to say which Yuba City offices were raided.

"It's an ongoing investigation. We have to protect the integrity of the case," he said.

One chiropractor whose office reportedly was raided said "an officer stopped by" but denied being involved in fraud.

Kimbrough said an initial investigation indicated the fraud involves "millions or tens of millions of dollars."

Kimbrough said search warrants were obtained from courts in each of the counties where raids took place.

A Sutter County Superior Court employee said Thursday she could not confirm the issuance of the warrants.
