Store clerk attacked, shot at; four arrested
A Yuba City convenience store clerk was beaten and fired at after an argument early this morning with four suspects, a Sutter County Sheriff's Department official said.
The incident occurred about 3:34 a.m. at the AMPM Mini Market at Highway 99 and Bogue Road.
The 23-year-old male clerk saw the suspects behaving suspiciously near the store's gas pumps and went out to investigate. When the clerk turned to leave after a verbal confrontation, he was charged and assaulted by three of the suspects, said department spokeswoman Brenda Baker.
The clerk fell to the ground and called 911 on his cell phone. As the suspects were leaving, repeated shots were fired in the clerk's direction. He was not hit but was treated for minor injuries from the beating, said Baker.
Deputies stopped the suspects' car in the 800 block of Karnail Court and recovered a revolver. Arrested were Kuljeet Singh, 20, Hardev Singh, 23, Jasdeep Singh, 18, and a 17-year-old male juvenile whose name was not released. All are from Yuba City, Baker said.
Charges against the four were pending Tuesday, she said.
