Briefs: Falling church TV kills girl
A 7-year-old Colusa girl died Tuesday after a television fell from a cart and struck her in the head, the Colusa police reported.
The girl, whose name was not released, was in what was described as a conference room in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church rectory, 745 Ware Ave., at about 1 p.m.
She and her brother watch television there while their mother does volunteer work at the church, interim Colusa Police Chief Ross Stark said.
"It is very sad," Stark said.
The girl apparently was trying to turn the cart so she and her brother could better see the screen when the TV fell and struck her in the head, the police reported.
Emergency personnel found the girl unconscious with "severe head trauma," a statement released by Stark said.
She was taken to Colusa Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
