40,000 Comcast customers blacked out

Some 40,000 Mid-Valley customers of Comcast Corp. lost cable television and high-speed Internet services this morning.

A power surge on a cable line at Comcast's Yuba City office knocked out communications at 10:20 a.m., according to Bryan Byrd, a company spokesman in Sacramento.

The failure blacked out TV, high-speed Internet access and telephone service in sections of Yuba City, Marysville, Linda and Olivehurst. Other Comcast connections went dark in Grass Valley and Paradise.

Repair crews restored connections to most customers by 2:15 p.m., Byrd said. About 2,000 Comcast customers in Grass Valley remained without service as of 4 p.m., and the company did not say when service would resume there.

HOMELESS SHELTER?
Yuba City is considering using the former fire station No. 4 on Walton Avenue as a cold-weather shelter for homeless families. Is this a good idea?
Yes. We've gone too long with limited options for homeless families.
It's a good idea, but the fire station is a bad location for this.
No. The city has better things they can use the building for.
I'm not sure.
