Cooper Avenue shooting victim identified
The victim of Yuba City's latest street shooting was identified today as 18-year-old Josiah Pacheco.
Pacheco, a Yuba City resident, was walking on Forbes Avenue near Cooper Avenue when shot Wednesday night, apparently from a passing vehicle, said Yuba City Police Department spokeswoman Shawna Pavey.
Pacheco was taken to a hospital, which the Appeal-Democrat is not identifying at the Police Department's request.
A spokesman said hospital officials had decided not to release information on Pacheco's condition.
A gang connection to the shooting "is not being ruled out," said Pavey.
Officers at the scene late Wednesday did not comment. The shooting occured around 10 p.m. and closed a portion of Cooper until well past midnight.
Blood could be seen on a sidewalk on the east side of Cooper Avenue, about a block south of Forbes.
Investigators are still developing information from witnesses, said Pavey.
