BEALE
Base rescinds plane's unveiling
Three of five of Beale Air Force Base's new MC-12W aircraft were scheduled to arrive at the base Friday afternoon, according to the base's public affairs office.
After initially inviting media, including the Appeal-Democrat, to cover the arrival, Beale officials rescinded the invitation about an hour and a half before the planes were scheduled to arrive.
A Beale public affairs officer said at 5 p.m. that the planes had yet to arrive and that a "media day" would be scheduled later.
The MC-12W is a medium altitude, twin-engine, turbo-prop aircraft with the primary mission to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support to ground forces.
