Sutter County coroner identifies body found in ditch

Dental records helped identify the body found Monday afternoon in a Live Oak ditch off Highway 99, the Sutter County Coroner’s Department reported Friday.

Richard Domenick Efigenio, 58, of Yuba City, was reported missing Oct. 9. The Yuba City Police Department took the report, the coroner’s department said.

The exact cause of death remains unknown pending toxicology test results, which could take several weeks.

Foul play is not suspected, Sutter County sheriff’s investigators have previously said.

The badly decomposed body was found by an unidentified woman who was picking up aluminum cans when she stumbled upon the remains, which were partially covered with leaves, authorities said.
