Briefs: Aanestad seeks Herger's seat
Yuba-Sutter
Former state Sen. Sam Aanestad will run for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Wally Herger, a former staff member wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday.
Bill Bird, who was Aanestad's chief spokesman when Aanestad was in the state Senate, wrote the post. Aanestad's district included Yuba and Sutter counties.
Aanestad, R-Penn Valley, was termed out in 2010 and would run against his successor, state Sen. Doug LaMalfa, R-Richvale, in the Republican primary for Congress.
Past candidate Pete Stiglich is also running as a Republican.

$500K stun gun death claim tossed
A claim for $500,000 stemming from a man who died after Yuba County sheriff's deputies zapped him with a stun gun last year was rejected Tuesday by the Yuba County Board of Supervisors.
The board discussed the matter in closed session.
The wrongful death claim, filed Jan. 5, said Alfredo Flores-Bravo, 47, of Linda, was shocked by deputies on July 5 for no reason after a report he stabbed a store clerk nearby. He died that night after losing consciousness.
Later toxicology reports showed Flores-Bravo was high on methamphetamine when he died.
The claim warned rejection could lead to further legal action.
Sutter County
Familiar face takes over post
A familiar name is taking the helm at Sutter County's Community Services Department: former planning manager Danelle Stylos.
After leaving about five years ago from the role, Stylos was appointed to the higher position with Sutter County last month, and will start March 5 after leaving her job as director of community development services for Oakdale in Stanislaus County.
With Sutter County, her office will oversee planning, building construction, fire services, animal control and other departments.
Stylos' annual salary will be $125,578, not including benefits.
