Deputies: Trio of burglars crash getaway vehicle in Sutter County

Sacramento residents tossed loot from vehicle, officials say

Three suspected burglars from Sacramento were jailed Monday after they crashed their getaway vehicle in a field in south Sutter County and tried to hide in a ditch, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department reported.

“Sheriff’s deputies with the assistance of a (California Highway Patrol) helicopter and local farmers conducted an area search and later located the suspects hiding in a drainage ditch ...,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Brenda Baker said in a statement.

Baker said suspected burglars Gabriel Urbieta, Monica Renee Arevalo, and Joshua Dillon Urbieta, all of Sacramento, were throwing stolen jewelry out the vehicle’s window as they fled.

All three were found in a ditch near West Catlett and Vernon Road, authorities said.

About $2,000 in jewelry was recovered around the crash scene. Deputies were called around 1:30 p.m. to a residential burglary in progress in the 4400 block of Riego Road in Pleasant Grove.

A witness said a 1999 Acura was seen leaving the area. The vehicle was spotted a short time later and drove away from sheriff’s deputies.

The vehicle’s driver lost control and the car rolled into a field where three suspect fled on foot. They were tracked to the ditch a short time later.

All three were taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital for minor injuries before they were booked into the Sutter County Jail.

Suspected driver Gabriel Urbieta, 45, was booked on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, hit and run, destroying evidence and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $25,000.

Arevalo was booked on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, destroying evidence and leaving the scene of a crash. Her bail was listed as $15,000.

Joshua Dillon Urbieta, 20, was booked on suspicion of conspiracy, destroying evidence and leaving the scene of a crash. His bail was set at $5,000.

All three were still in custody Tuesday afternoon.
