Briefs: State, county veterans services must show how they aid
State and county veterans' services offices will have to file annual reports showing how they've helped veterans over the previous year, and how many claims they've gotten, under a bill signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday.
Assembly Bill 2198, by Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, requires the California Department of Veterans Services' annual report to include the amount of services they provided in the previous year, as well as what the county veterans' offices did.
Numbers of homeless veterans helped to connect with federal services will also be included.
Nielsen, R-Gerber, said in a press release he was happy Brown signed the law, adding it will give veterans the best services they're entitled to receive.
SUTTER COUNTY
Chinese exhibit opens at Community Memorial Museum
Chinese Pioneers in Sutter County, a new permanent exhibit, opens this month in the multicultural wing of the Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County.
A reception is from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 28 at 1333 Butte House Road, Yuba City. Admission is free.
The exhibit represents a small kitchen where a Chinese bachelor farmhand would cook and take his meals in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Sutter County.
Chinese men during that time were often involved in agriculture.
Many of the artifacts in the exhibit were used by Chinese farmers and ranch cooks in Sutter County.
