Yuba County officials seek general plan input
Yuba County planners want to know what residents think should be included in the county’s general plan.
Throughout the month of July, county officials will hold five meetings in various locations around the county to gather initial comments from residents on how they think the county should grow.
The general plan serves as a blueprint for future growth in the county. Every county in the state is required to have one, and it must be periodically updated. The document is comprised of at least seven areas, called “elements” that cover everything from housing to traffic circulation and land use.
County officials are preparing to update the Yuba County document, which will take two years and cost an estimated $900,000 to complete.
“We need to hear about the little pieces that are concerning people,” said Russ Brown, Yuba County spokesman. “We don’t want people to be intimidated. We want people to come and find out about the (process).”
The first meeting will be held Wednesday in Conference Room 1 at the Yuba County Government Center in Marysville. Other meetings will follow in Linda, Olivehurst, Wheatland and Loma Rica. All of the meetings will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Other meetings will follow at some point in the future to discuss the different elements. Johnson said these intial meetings will be informal.
“It’s going to be like a big open house,” he said.
County planning staff could not be reached for additional comment.
Examples of questions people can ask are how will the county grow, where will new businesses go, what kind of parks and other recreational sites can be anticipated and how will county services keep up with the growth, Johnson said. People can view maps and talk to planning staff about a variety of different issues.
