Marysville man's choking conviction upheld

The conviction and four-year sentence of a Marysville man, whom police said choked his girlfriend when she told him to leave her apartment after she found him on the couch having sex with her friend, has been upheld by a state court.

Gregory Adam Reasons, 36, his girlfriend and her female friend were drinking in March 2012 when the incident took place in Marysville, said the Tuesday ruling by the 3rd Appellate District court in Sacramento.

Reasons' girlfriend became sick, passed out and awoke to find him and her friend engaged in sexual intercourse, the state court said. After Reasons' girlfriend packed his belongings and threw them out of her apartment, he grabbed her by the hair, threw her against a door and the couch and choked her until she lost consciousness, according to the court ruling.

When she came to, Reasons told her if she told anybody what happened he would kill her, the state court said.

Reasons admitted an argument erupted after he was found having sex with the woman's friend, but denied assaulting his girlfriend.

The state court said it examined the case record and found no errors that would result in a more favorable disposition to the defendant.

Elaine Forrester, the Santa Cruz attorney who represented Reasons in his appeal, declined Thursday to comment about the ruling.
