Teen accidentally kills cousin during deer hunt

The teenage son of a hunting safety instructor accidentally shot and killed his 14-year-old cousin during a Southern California deer hunting trip.

The Palm Springs Desert Sun says 14-year-old Isreal Delatorre of Coachella was shot to death Saturday afternoon in the San Jacinto Mountains near Garner Valley.

Riverside County sheriff’s investigators say the teen, his cousin and uncle — hunting safety instructor Guillermo Delatorre —  were hunting deer when Isreal Delatorre was accidentally shot.

Delatorre says his nephew got caught up in the moment of seeing his first deer and got in front of the hunting party.

Delatorre says he’s been teaching gun safety classes since the 1990s, saying his nephew had gone through 30 hours of hunter education training with him.
