Crash hurts five

Pair airlifted in wreck which closed Hwy. 20

Two people were airlifted to a Roseville hospital — one in critical condition — after a crash Wednesday that closed Highway 20 for nearly two hours.

The crash occurred just west of the Sutter Bypass when an eastbound car driven by Chase Morgan, 20, of Colusa, drifted into oncoming traffic, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Larson.

Morgan's vehicle hit the rear trailer of a big rig heading westbound, then bounced off the trailer and collided with a westbound Honda driven by Sarab Singh, 34, of Williams, according to the CHP.

Both had severe leg injuries and were taken by helicopters to the hospital.

Singh was in serious condition Thursday at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Morgan was listed in good condition at the Roseville hospital.

The cars were so mangled that Morgan and Singh were trapped in the vehicles until rescue workers got them out.

Larson said a Caltrans worker who happened upon the crash just after it was reported at 3:52 p.m. was able to provide enough medical information that helicopters were dispatched right away and were waiting for Morgan and Singh to be removed from the vehicles.

The victims were apparently wearing seat belts and none were thrown from the vehicles, said Larson.

Two unidentified women who were riding in the cars were taken by ambulance to Rideout Memorial Hospital. One was treated and released. The other was admitted to Rideout and was in stable condition.

Highway 20 traffic was routed around the collision for nearly two hours.
