Woman in mysterious south Yuba City death identified

Behind yellow crime scene tape, Sutter County sheriff's detectives continued a meticulous investigation Thursday into a potential homicide at a south Yuba City home.

The body of 68-year-old Baljit Kaur was discovered around noon Wednesday inside her home in the 1900 block of Anthony Way.

Kaur's family declined comment.

Sheriff's deputies remained tight-lipped on the investigation's second day. Deputies called the death "suspicious," but declined to elaborate.

"We can't go beyond 'suspicious,'" Undersheriff Jeffery Pierce said. "We've not ruled (homicide) out, but can't say one way or the other."

A crime scene investigation van remained parked outside and numerous Sheriff's Department investigators moved in and out of the home.

The mysterious death troubled neighbors, but nobody wanted to talk about it Thursday.

Pierce urged patience while investigators work through the evidence.

"Everyone, family members, neighbors, are wanting to know what happened," Pierce said.

An autopsy is scheduled today, deputies said, but that does not guarantee the manner of death will be available any time soon.

"Releasing that information will depend on whether or not it could jeopardize the investigation," Pierce said.
