Appeal-Democrat classifieds targeted by phone scammers

People claiming to represent the Appeal-Democrat are telephoning classified advertisers in an apparent scam and trying to obtain credit card numbers.

The newspaper is not conducting such calls.

The callers are telling customers that their ad had a problem and they need to verify a credit card number or asking if they would like to have their ad renewed. People who feel they have been targeted by such callers are asked to contact the Appeal-Democrat at 741-2345.
