Search on after armed robbery at Linda Burger King

The hunt continued Saturday for the man who robbed a fast-food restaurant at gunpoint in Linda.

Yuba County sheriff's deputies said a man with facial tattoos stuck a gun in a clerk's face around 9:30 p.m. Friday, swiped a small amount of cash from the register and ran away.

"We have a couple leads our detectives are following up on," sheriff's Sgt. Wencel Kemp said Saturday, "but we haven't made any arrests yet."

No one was hurt and no shots were fired, Kemp said.

Deputies said the man went into the Burger King on North Beale Road about 10 minutes before the robbery and left after asking an employee a question.

With a California Highway Patrol helicopter circling overhead, authorities searched the area for several hours but failed to locate the thief.

Nearly two hours after the robbery, deputies evacuated a wing of the nearby Motel 6, believing the suspect was hiding in a second-floor hotel room.

More than a dozen sleepy lodgers were seen around 11:15 p.m. streaming out of a door on the north side of the building.

Deputies stormed a room around 11:45 p.m., but found no one inside.

Kemp declined to say why deputies thought the suspect was in that particular room.

Deputies described the suspect as a black adult male with tattoos on both cheeks. He was last seen wearing a blue sweater, a blue knit hat and shorts.
