Comments 0 | Recommend 0Catfish for Ellis Lake
Ellis Lake in Marysville was stocked with about 18,000 pounds of catfish Thursday in preparation of the Marysville Kiwanis Club Jim Watson Annual Youth Fishing Derby.
The average size of this year's fish is 2 to 3 pounds each, according to Kiwanis member Ray Baker, plus one 14-pound albino catfish.
The event, for children from preschool through eighth grade, is from 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Though volunteers will be on site to help participants, adults are encouraged to accompany their child, Baker said.
A free pancake breakfast for participants will be served until 9 a.m.
Registration for the derby is from 6:30 to 10 a.m. in the AAA building cul de sac, corner of 12th and D streets.
Participants are asked to bring their own fishing equipment. Bait, along with hot dogs and soda, will be available for purchase.
More than 3,000 prizes will be given away during the drawing at 11:30 a.m. Winners must be present to win.
