Scare up some fun with Halloween events

The weekend is filled with harvest festivals and Halloween-related events throughout the Mid-Valley though the autumn holiday doesn't arrive until the middle of next week.

Activities, starting Friday, include:

Harvest Festival at the First United Methodist Church — 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Friday,10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at 3101 Colusa Highway, Yuba City.

Annual Haunted Health Fair — 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Friday at the Sutter County Health Department, 1445 Veterans Memorial Circle, Yuba City.

Arboga's Dead End Horror Haunted House — 6:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Arboga Community Center, 1662 Broadway. Due to the graphic material involved, sponsors recommend that children under 13 be accompanied by an adult. Admission is $5 per person; to benefit the community center and Breast Cancer Walk.

Riverbend Elementary School Annual Harvest Festival — 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday at 301 Stewart Road, Yuba City.

Camelot Kids Fall Festival — 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Calvary Christian Center, 2620 Colusa Highway, Yuba City. Event tickets are $4 for children 2 to 16 years; and free for children under 2 years and ages 17 and over.

The Haunting of SmokeyHills Manor — 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sutter/Yuba Friday Night Live building, Fourth and C streets, Marysville. Admission is $5; children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Movie: "Hocus Pocus" — 7 p.m. Friday at Yuba College, grassy field near gym, 2088 N. Beale Road, Linda; park in south end of west parking lot. Free admission.

Howl O'Ween Dog Parade and Costume Contest — 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Sutter Buttes Canine Rescue Thrift Shop parking lot, 855 Gray Ave., Yuba City. The participant's entry fee is $5.

Halloween Special arts and crafts — noon-5 p.m. Saturday at Yuba County Library, 303 Second St., Marysville.

Annual Pumpkin Growing, Carving and Decorating Contest — Judging at noon Saturday at Sutter Orchard Supply, 573 Bridge St., Yuba City. Participants need to drop off their entries between 8 a.m. and noon.

Irish Halloween in Smartsville — 2 p.m. to dark Saturday in downtown Smartsville, Yuba County. Ghost stories start at about 6:15 p.m.

St. Isidore Catholic School's Harvest Festival — 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday at 200 Clark Ave., Yuba City.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church's Annual Fall Festival — Dinner and comedy show 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, tickets $20; and the fall festival 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Seventh and C streets, Marysville.

"Thrill the World" — 7 p.m. Saturday at the Marysville High School cafeteria, 12 E. 18th St., Marysville. Sponsored by Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts Dance Department. Free admission; donations accepted.

Healthy Harvest Fair — 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Daddow Park, Sycamore and Virginia streets, Gridley. Hosted by Butte County Public Health.

Halloween Ball — 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Sunday at The Plaza Room, 210 Julie Drive, Yuba City. Sponsored by Gotbliss Inc. Donation: $5-$20.

Trunk or Treat Carnival — 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sammie's restaurant, 2517 El Centro Blvd., East Nicolaus.

Scarysville Halloween Festival — 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday on and around D Street, downtown Marysville. Sponsored by Marysville Business Improvement District.

Fall Festival — 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Avenue Baptist Church, 804 Cooper Ave., Yuba City.

Kids for Christ Celebration — 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hallwood Community Church of the Nazarene, 2825 Highway 20, Hallwood. Admission: $3 per person or $15 for family.

Annual Harvest Festival — 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at Sutter Community Church, 2900 Acacia Ave., Sutter.
