Marysville gang member avoids prison sentence in stabbing
July 26, 2011 — Sheriff's Deputies arrest Angel M. Fielding for the fourth time in a month on stalking and burglary-related charges involving a 17-year-old Linda girl.
Aug. 3, 2011 — Fielding pleads no contest to stalking, a felony. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors drop a felony burglary charge.
Aug. 26, 2011 — Yuba County Judge Kathleen O'Connor sentences Fielding to serve two years in prison.
July 24 — Fielding is released from prison under the condition of the state's prison realignment program.
July 27 — Fielding tests positive for marijuana use and is ordered to serve 10 days in jail per the realignment program.

Oct. 25 — Fielding pleads guilty to assault with a deadly weapon. Court officials are unaware of the pending weapons investigation and order Fielding's release from jail, authorities said.
Dec. 5 — Prosecutors file a felony weapons charge in connection the suspected jail weapon.
Monday — Judge Julia L. Scrogin sentences Fielding to five years probation in the stabbing case after prosecutors said the victim, Robinson, refused to cooperate with investigators.

A Marysville gang member escaped a prison sentence this week in a stabbing case after his victim refused to cooperate with prosecutors, authorities said on Tuesday.
Angel Miguel Fielding was sentenced Monday in Yuba County Superior Court to five years of probation in connection with the Aug. 7 stabbing of a Linda man. He was also given credit for time served in jail.
Incarceration, however, may still be on the horizon for Fielding, according to the Yuba County District Attorney's Office.
Deputies on Oct. 21 found a makeshift knife, described by prosecutors as a "shiv," in Fielding's cell at the Yuba County Jail. It was not clear how the weapon was made, authorities said.
"They use almost anything they can find," said Mechele Cook, a deputy Yuba County district attorney.
Fielding, 19, was released from state prison on July 24 after serving about 11 months on a two-year term for stalking a 17-year-old Linda girl last year, according to Yuba County court records.
He was arrested again on Aug. 6 after deputies said he stabbed Ronell Robinson during an argument in the parking lot of a Hile Avenue apartment complex.
Robinson, 30, was stabbing three times in the upper body and required surgery.
He was treated and released from the hospital that same day, authorities said.
Investigators were never able to determine what the argument was about or what led to the stabbing.
"The victim was uncooperative from the very beginning," said Shiloh Sorbello, a deputy Yuba County district attorney. "He was the only witness that we know of."
Fielding pleaded guilty in October to assault with a deadly weapon, which is a strike offense, prosecutors said.
"It makes him prison eligible for the rest of his life," Sorbello said.
Court officials were unaware of the weapons investigation at the time and Fielding was released, according to Yuba County Undersheriff Jerry Read. Jail staff found Fielding's weapon a day after he pleaded, prosecutors said.
If convicted on the felony weapons charge, he faces a maximum sentence of about 15 years or more, authorities said.
Fielding pleaded not guilty on Monday in connection with the weapons case.
He is due back in court on Dec. 19.
