Linda feud ends with man run down by car
A long-standing feud between two Linda residents sparked early Friday over a romantic relationship and ended when one man ran down another with a vehicle, the Yuba County Sheriff's Department reported.
The victim, 23-year-old Ronald Dobson, was treated for a shoulder injury.
"These two have a long history of not getting along," Lt. Shaun Smith said. "This appears to be over some type of relationship with a female."
Brian Zachary Gilbert, of the 5800 block of Riverside Drive, was booked into the Yuba County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Gilbert, 29, went to Dobson's home on the same block at about 2 a.m. and the two exchanged verbal insults, the authorities said.
"As Gilbert was driving away, the victim damaged the windshield to Gilbert's vehicle," Sheriff Steve Durfor said in a statement.
Deputies said Gilbert backed up and deliberately swerved at the victim, striking him with the front of the vehicle.
Dobson was taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
Gilbert was arrested a short time later and booked into the Yuba County Jail on felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Gilbert was most recently arrested May 9 on suspicion of beating a woman with a beer bottle. That domestic violence case is still pending in Yuba County Superior Court.
Gilbert pleaded no contest in 2001 to a domestic battery charge, according to court records. He was still in custody Friday morning. Bail was set at $30,000.
