Blaze on Hooper Road contained to garage

A fire Wednesday morning at a house in west Yuba City was contained to the garage.

No one was home at the single-story residence at 2223 Hooper Road, but a cat was found dead inside. Three dogs were also at the house but not harmed, according to Bill Fuller of the Yuba City Fire Department.

The call came into the fire department at 8:21 a.m.

"Because of the structure of the home and the response time, we were able to contain the fire to the garage," Fuller said. "There was some slight damage to the house and interior of the home and we had to vent the roof (of the garage)."

Fuller said there were a lot of personal storage items in the two-car garage but no vehicles parked there. The fire was determined to be electrical but the point of cause hadn't been determined, Fuller said. The department estimated damage at $71,000.

Four Yuba City engines and one county engine responded to the fire, with about 15 firefighters working the blaze, according to Fuller.
