Granny bandit robbing women in SoCal
FONTANA — A woman who might be 80 years old stole a purse at gunpoint Wednesday in what could be her fourth stickup in as many days, police said.
The bandit held up a woman with a child outside a Target store in the San Bernardino County city of Fontana, grabbing the purse and driving off in a dark sedan with a missing hubcap.
The robber was described as wearing "a neutral-colored faded muumuu with a multi-colored scarf covering her face — and a black handgun," Sgt. Bill Green said.
The description is similar to that of a middle-aged or elderly woman who unsuccessfully tried to steal the purse of a woman who was loading groceries Tuesday into her car outside a Walmart store.
Other shoppers were robbed outside a Target store on Monday and a Kohl's store on Sunday.
So far, no one has been injured.
Speed is part of the bandit's technique, Green said.
"It's five seconds: She's out of the car ... whips out a gun and leaves," Green told the Riverside Press-Enterprise. "We have a granny bandit on the loose."
