Kang wins top doctor honor
Dr. Jasbir Kang has been recognized as the 2009 Outstanding Physician by the Fremont-Rideout Foundation.
Kang's award was announced during Thursday's annual Evening of Appreciation event hosted by the foundation. He is a longtime Yuba City-based doctor of internal medicine.
The annual event recognizes donors and sponsors who support foundation programs, projects and special events throughout the year.
Kang was recognized for his "passion to help people with diabetes." He developed and directed the foundation's Diabetes Symposium in 2008. He is also chief of staff on the Fremont-Rideout Health Group Board of Directors.
Also recognized were Tom Souza for time served on the foundation's board of directors, and Mary Barkhouse and Mona Routzong for their leadership. Elaine Tarke and Marnee Crowhurst received the 2009 Volunteers of the Year award for their work on the Fremont Medical Center Auxiliary, past work with the Fremont-Rideout Foundation and their time with the annual Fairway to Health golf tournament fundraiser.
Bill Bravos was given the Phebe Rideout Award for his commitment to the Yuba County and Sutter County community hospitals. Accomplishments under Bravos' leadership included the opening of the Rideout Heart Center and The Gardens Alzheimer's and dementia care facility.
The Fremont-Rideout Foundation is a nonprofit foundation that raises funds for Rideout Memorial Hospital and Fremont Medical Center.
