Talk Back: Brown proposes tax changes; trash sent to Ostrom Road; grand jury report opposition; student rally

Gov. Jerry Brown proposes changes to business taxes he argues will promote job growth:

"Growth comes from the private sector. Cut the head off of the public employees union if you ever want to see growth."

— probono

"So even closing a tax loophole for the wealthy corporations is looked upon as a bad thing by the legislators who's campaigns were paid for by the wealthy corporations. This isn't even a tax increase, it is taking away an unfair tax advantage. Any attempt to ease the burden on the middle class is looked on by too many of the middle class as a bad thing. Wake and smell the Kool-Aid. Go ask any business owner what would be an incentive for them to hire more employees, a tax break, or more customers. If the people in the middle have a little more to spend, their increased consumption will result in more jobs. It isn't rocket science."

— olddad

"Good old foolish Brown, always has his heart in the right place; his head, not so much. Who does Jerry believe will pay the increased taxes for goods purchased by Californians?..."

— sisyphean

"Logue will be against this one. It doesn't benefit his state of Texas."

— dianeg1

A lawsuit is filed to prevent San Francisco trash from being shipped to the Ostrom Road landfill:

"When I arrange with a contractor to build me a house, he doesn't have all the permits. He gets them after the agreement between the two of us is made. THEN if he has a problem getting them, we discuss it and make adjustments. I admire the commitment to a strongly held belief/cause but grasping at straws is kinda sad."

— amommynous

"I would prefer garbage going down the tracks then the propane...It seems Yuba Group Against Garbage is not as concerned about that?"

— ysbooster

Marysville opposes many findings in the Yuba County grand jury report:

"One purpose of the grand jury is to IMPROVE local government services. The members of the grand jury devoted their time and energies to investigate and make thoughtful suggestions and the response of local government was to label their observations and suggestions 'diatribe.' This is EXACTLY the type of response that weakens public confidence in local government. I applaud the grand jury for their efforts."

— bethward

"Out of the entire grand jury investigation they could only come up with these two very minor things to write about? I'd say the city is doing a pretty good job. As for Marysville's response, it was two things, fix them and drive on. It could have been so much worse!"

— 19dcavscout

"Don't take issue, just fix the freaking problems!"

— 3drage

Students rally in support of a River Valley teacher arrested on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child:

"Just because someone is a good math teacher doesn't mean they aren't capable of molesting someone. Lets wait to hear what evidence they may or may not have against him before stating his guilt or complete innocence, because by proclaiming his innocence to the world when you have no clue about the case, severely impacts the victim. It's people like the below commenters and in the article that cause victims to hide in shame rather to even dare to report an incident against a popular teacher..."

— troutfishinggirl

"I would also say that when false accusations are made it demeans the real crimes committed. Those people that lie for financial gain are as guilty as violating real victims of horrendous acts. Don't forget that!"
