Fairfield man jailed after car chase through Yuba-Sutter
A Fairfield man was arrested on Saturday after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Yuba and Sutter counties.
California Highway Patrol officers said they did not know why Dorral Lee Hicks fled or why he abruptly surrendered a short time later.
"The car is not stolen," Officer Jeff Larson said. "We didn't find any (contraband)."
No one was hurt.
Hicks, 42, was booked into the Yuba County Jail on suspicion of evading, a felony, and speeding.
"And a host of other traffic violations," Larson said.
Officers tried to stop Hicks around 3:30 p.m. for speeding on Highway 70 in Sutter County, the CHP said.
But the driver of the silver Ford Taurus did not stop. Hicks led officers on a chase north on Highway 70 at speeds of up to 100 mph at one point.
The driver turned off the highway onto Arboga Road, headed down Grand Avenue to Alicia Avenue, before heading over the Erle Road overpass, where he suddenly stopped at the eastbound traffic light and surrendered.
As the driver approached Linda, officers considered abandoning the chase for public safety reasons.
"But then he just gave up, fortunately," Larson said.
