Accident injures 4, closes Highway 70

Four people were injured in a multiple-vehicle accident Friday afternoon along Highway 70 at the Olivehurst Avenue exit that backed up northbound traffic for miles, the Olivehurst Fire Department said.

Interim Chief Wade Harrison said it appeared two of the injuries were moderate and two were minor after collisions that followed a vehicle apparently spinning out on the wet road.

Further details from the California Highway Patrol were not immediately available. Yuba County Sheriff's Department units also responded to the scene.

"We're lucky the injuries weren't any worse than what they were," Harrison said, citing the wet roadway conditions during the accident reported at 2:46 p.m.

The injured persons, whose names were not immediately available, were taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, he said.

Harrison said traffic had backed up to the Highway 65-70 split when Olivehurst Fire Department units reached the scene — and that traffic then backed up further.

Vehicles involved in the accident were along the highway and on-ramp, he said.
