Big rig carrying Coors Light crashes on Highway 99

Accident occurs near where another truck rolled hours before

Just about 12 hours after a big rig spilled onions after rolling over on Highway 99 and Garden Highway, another truck, this one carrying Coors Light beer, overturned near the same spot.

Roy Goetz, 62, of Turlock was driving a 1997 Peterbuilt with an attached trailer north on Highway 99 south of Garden Highway at about 1:30 this morning. For reasons unknown, the truck left the roadway and overturned on its right side, spilling 22 pallets of Coors Light onto the shoulder.

Goetz was not injured in the crash and was not under the influence of alcohol, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The highway was closed for about 45 minutes during the cleanup.

The accident is under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to the call the CHP's Yuba-Sutter office at 674-5141.

In the earlier accident, Felton McCastle, 53, of Sacramento was headed north at 1:49 p.m. on Highway 99 when he slowed from 55 mph to take a curve near where 99 meets Garden Highway and lost control.

McCastle and his fiancee, Katina Wright, 36, also of Sacramento, were both taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
